COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING VARIOUS METHODS OF BASIC SOIL TILLAGE DURING POTATO CULTIVATION IN THE NORTH-WESTERN CASPIAN REGION

Annotation

Purpose: to compare the effectiveness of various methods of basic soil cultivation with a PLN-4-35 plow (h = 0.20–0.22 m) and a ROPA rotary cultivator (h = 0.40–0.45 m), as well as various insecticides in wireworm control.

Materials and methods. The field experiment was conducted in 2023–2025 on the irrigated plot of the Precaspian Agrarian Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Astrakhan region). Potato varieties Vineta and Azhur, methods of basic soil cultivation (moldboard plowing PLN-4-35 and rotary cultivator ROPA) and three insecticides (Klubneshit, KS; Indikum, SP; Tabu, VSK) against wireworms were studied. The biological effectiveness of the drugs based on the dynamics of the pest population, the yield structure and economic indicators were taken into account.

Results. It was determined that when analyzing potato tubers of the Azhur variety using the drug Indicum, SP, the samples presented were mainly with weak and moderate damage. The best results were obtained through the use of ROPA (h = 0.40–0.45 m) using the drug Indicum, SP on Azhur variety potatoes, where marketability reached a maximum value of 81.3 %. The profitability of this option provided a yield of 386.7% at a cost of 383.4 thousand rubles/ha.

Conclusions. If to consider the methods of basic soil cultivation, there was an advantage in the area where the ROPA tillage unit was used (h = 0.40–0.45 m). On average, the increase over the control across the two varieties was in the range of 21.4–24.5 t/ha. In the variants where the main soil cultivation method was applied in the form of moldboard plowing PLN-4-35 (h = 0.20–0.22 m) with various insecticides, the average increase relative to the control was at the level of 13.5–25.1 t/ha. When assessing the biological effectiveness of the use of various insecticides, a significant reduction in the number of pests was obtained in the variant using the drug Indikum, SP.
