WAYS TO IMPROVE IRRIGATION TECHNOLOGY USING LOCAL RUNOFF (OVERVIEW)

Annotation

The purpose of the research is to improve irrigation technology using local runoff. The main elements of irrigation technology at local runoff were determined. These elements were the means for water intake and conveyance, constructions of irrigation systems, methods and modes of irrigation, and irrigation equipment. The factors impacting on the election of the elements of irrigation technology are the rate of water absorption in soil, slopes within an irrigation site, degree of drainage, depth and mineralization of ground water, soil fertility, and quality of irrigation water. The main ways to improve irrigation technology at local runoff are the optimization of crop rotation, rationalization of irrigation modes, applying efficient management practice for increasing the efficiency of irrigation water use in topsoil, and improving of irrigation methods. It is necessary to take into consideration the specifics of local runoff such as a very short duration and discrepancy with crop demands for irrigation. Those problems can be solved by water accumulating on the base of liman irrigation. As a solution, the Patent RF no. 2467561 “Irrigation System with Use of Local Runoff” may be applied. The arrangement of irrigation site integrated with the system of multilevel limans is proposed. The water of local runoff may be used according two variants. The first variant is a classic scheme providing direct irrigation of the territory, the second one provides accumulated water redistribution to the adjacent irrigated site. Such a complex approach, when considering the optimal combination of all the elements of irrigation technology, allows using the water of local runoff as efficiently as possible. The proposed variant of the system will promote the technology of periodic and cyclic irrigation, reduce labor and energy costs for water transport, and preserve a good ecological and reclamation situation.
