GULLY MODELING FOR FOREST RECLAMATION PURPOSES
- Land Reclamation, Recultivation, and Land Protection
The purpose of research was to monitor the recultivated ash dump layer for assessment the biological recultivation success. The object of this research was the recultivation layer of the second ash dump section of Novocherkassk Power Station. In accordance with the monitoring procedure, the sampling of the recultivated layer was done every 3–5 years after biological recultivation. Analyses were carried out in a specialized laboratory of Russian Research Institute of Land Improvement Problems. Biological recultivation with phytomelioration was performed on the second ash dump section of State District Power station in Novocherkassk in 2004. The ash dump section has been monitored since 2005. The received results allowed us to notice the tendency towards the increase of organic matter content in recultivated layer which in horizon 0–20 cm was 6.25 % (which is 6.09; 6.18, 6.24 % more than in 2011, 2008 and 2003), in horizon 20–40 cm was 17.3 % in 2014 (which is 14.07 %, 14.61 %, 17.21 % more than in 2011, 2008 and 2003). A decrease in the pH values in horizons 0–20 and 20–40 cm of recultivation layer is noted. Analysis of the given data showed the pH decrease in 2014: in horizon 0–20 cm it was equal to 0.10, in horizon 20–40 cm it was equal – 0.11. A decrease in heavy metals content in recultivation layer is also mentioned. Thus, the results of the monitoring revealed that performed phytomelioration had a significant impact on the ash dump recultivation layer. The received results allow to make conclusion on proceeding positive processes contributing to the organic matter accumulation in recultivation layer of ash dump in the form of biomass and root system of plant mixtures “hungarian sainfoin + couch grass + awnless bromegrass” that is achieved by fitomeliorants.
