THE INFLUENCE OF HERBICIDES ON WEED INFESTATION AND WINTER WHEAT YIELD IN THE NORTHWESTERN ZONE OF THE ROSTOV REGION

Annotation

Purpose: to evaluate the influence of herbicide treatments on weed infestation and winter wheat yield depending on the predecessor (bare fallow and winter wheat) in the Northwestern zone of the Rostov region.

Materials and methods. The study was carried out from 2021 to 2024 in the Northwestern zone of the Rostov region. The experiment was two-factorial: factor A was the predecessor (bare fallow, winter wheat), factor B was the herbicide treatment. The experimental design included variants with the application of herbicides Granat, VDG (0.025 kg/ha), Pixel, MD (0.3 l/ha), Primadonna Super, KKR (0.75 l/ha), Fenizan, VR (0.2 l/ha), Zinger, SP (0.01 kg/ha), a tank mixture of Granat, VDG + Primadonna Super, KKR (0.015 kg/ha + 0.4 l/ha). In winter wheat crops (Cinderella variety), weed infestation and yield were recorded. The influence of the predecessor on the species composition of the weed component was determined: the proportion of perennial weeds, such as field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis), Canadian thistle (Cirsium arvense) increases after the winter wheat predecessor.

Results. The application of preparations at the three-leaf phase of the crop ensured a significant reduction in the number of weeds. The herbicides Primadonna Super, KKR, Fenizan, VR, and a tank mixture (Granat + Primadonna Super) demonstrated the greatest effectiveness in controlling a wide range of weeds, including hard-to-eradicate species (Canadian thistle, field bindweed). The reduction in the number of Canadian thistle was 98.1–100 % and field bindweed was 86.2–97.6 %. The effectiveness of the herbicides varied depending on the precursor, which is associated with changes in the weed species composition and the phytosanitary condition of the field.

Conclusions. All herbicide variants provided a significant increase in yield compared to the control. Maximum economic efficiency was achieved with the herbicide Zinger, SP, which provided the greatest yield increase with both predecessors: 1.14 t/ha (30.3 %) after bare fallow and 0.98 t/ha (34.6 %) after winter wheat.
