THE INFLUENCE OF DRIP IRRIGATION ON THE SURVIVAL RATE, GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF TABLE GRAPE SEEDLINGS OF DIFFERENT MATURITY GROUPS

Annotation

Purpose: to study the impact of drip irrigation on the survival rate, growth, and development of table grape seedlings in the Lower Don region and to evaluate the efficiency of water resource use.

Materials and methods. The study was conducted on ordinary medium-loamy chernozems under insufficient natural moisture (hydrothermal coefficient of 0.33, precipitation 42.6 % of the long-term average annual indicator) in 2025. Seedlings were planted in the first ten days of May 2025 according to the 3.0 × 2.0 m scheme (1667 bushes per 1 ha). A total of 150 seedlings were planted, the experiment was carried out in triplicate. Soil moisture was maintained at a level of at least 80 % of the minimum water capacity in the 0–40 cm layer, the irrigation rate was 35 cub. m/ha. During the growing season, survival rates, biometric measurements of plant growth and development, and water capacity calculations were recorded.

Results. Survival rates ranged from 33.3 % (Aksaisky Manicure variety) to 93.3 % (Pamyati Kostrikina variety). The best growth indicators – shoot length of 40–47 cm and leaf-area duration of 2100–2600 sq. m/ha – were observed in the Moldova, Anyuta, and Vostorg varieties. The highest shoot maturity (45–64 %) was characteristic of the Vostorg, Moldova, Anyuta, Dubovsky Pink, and Pamyati Kostrikina varieties, indicating their better readiness for overwintering. Water capacity decreased with increasing leaf-area duration: minimum values were recorded for the Vostorg (0.42 cub. m/sq. m) and Moldova (0.53 cub. m/sq. m) varieties, while the maximum was for the Cocktail (1.58 cub. m/sq. m).

Conclusions. In dry year conditions with predominantly atmospheric droughts, when drip-irrigating seedlings in the Lower Don region, the most promising varieties are Pamyati Kostrikina, Moldova, and Vostorg, which can be recommended for root seedling cultivation under drip irrigation.
