GULLY MODELING FOR FOREST RECLAMATION PURPOSES
- Land Reclamation, Recultivation, and Land Protection
Purpose: to assess the groundwater suitability in Yegorlykskaya village, Rostov region, for various categories of water consumers in agricultural water supply, to justify the need of developing a water quality improvement unit.
Materials and methods. The object of the study was groundwater in the village of Yegorlykskaya, belonging to the Azov-Kuban artesian basin. The suitability of groundwater for domestic and drinking water supply was assessed according to SanPiN 1.2.3685-21, for animal watering – according to the requirements of VNTP-N-97, for irrigation – GOST 17.1.2.03-90.
Results. Reclamation assessment of groundwater in Yegorlykskaya village showed that the water use for irrigation will lead to sodium alkalinization and chloride salinization of soils. The quality of water for animal drinking does not meet the requirements of VNTP-N-97 for chloride content, it exceeds the norm by 1.1–1.6 times. Assessment of water suitability for household and drinking needs of the rural population showed that the main pollutants of groundwater are: hydrogen sulfide (the concentration exceeds the MACpv by about 1000 times), chlorides (1.87 times), ammonium ions (1.7 times), iron (17.47 times), dry residue exceeds the permissible one by 1.67 times. The installation of a water quality improvement unit at the existing water treatment plant is scientifically substantiated, it includes a hydrogen sulfide oxidation reactor unit providing a residence time of 6.94 min, a thin-layer settler with brush loading for sedimentation of the hydrogen sulfide oxidation product and a combined pressure filter for removing salt-forming ions and iron.
Conclusions. The use of groundwater in Yegorlykskaya village by water consumers of various categories without additional treatment is unacceptable. The improved engineering solutions for additional treatment of groundwater in the village of Yegorlykskaya are proposed, including a water quality improvement unit that ensures its compliance with regulatory requirements without increasing the area of the existing water treatment plant.
