GULLY MODELING FOR FOREST RECLAMATION PURPOSES
- Land Reclamation, Recultivation, and Land Protection
The aim of research was to conduct an inventory and mapping of technogenically disturbed and contaminated lands, identifying their areas, the depth and extent of crude oil pollution, choice of recultivation techniques and preliminary determination of their further use direction. The object of study is the south-western part of the Absheron Peninsula, with the area of 200 thousand hectares. To determine the ecological state of technogenically disturbed and contaminated lands after their inventory and mapping their areas are identified. Analysis of soils to characterize the degree of salinity and alkalinity is performed. In soil samples hygroscopic moisture, soil texture, salinity by total water extract, alkalinity by absorbed bases, proportion of humus, carbohydrate content of oil-contaminated soils are identified, as well as the area and depth of oil pollution were calculated. The studies have found out that the total area of all technogenically disturbed and contaminated with crude oil plots of examined soil is equal to 1898.2 hectares, namely, gravel-sand and ground quarry occupy 255.8 hectares; soil and ground quarry – 60.0 hectares; dump garbage of different composition – 202.7 ha; sand pits – 44.7 hectares; waterlogging with drill water – 1.0 hectares; half-ruined buildings for water supply – 3.5 hectares; saline and oil-contaminated water with drill water – 330.7 hectares. Preliminary recommendations for every survey plot to improve the environmental state of land according to its relief are given on the basis of field and laboratory studies.
