NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF ARTIFICIAL RAINFALL EFFECTIVE PRESSURE ON SOIL SPLASH

Annotation

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of effective pressure magnitude of the artificial rain drops on the mass of splashed soil as a parameter characterizing splash erosion. A total of 40 soil samples were investigated, which were splashed from droplets with a diameter of 1.73 and 2.73 mm, falling from a height of 1.0–2.5 m in increments of 0.5 m (replication fivefold). As a result of the impact of a drop with a diameter of 1.73 mm, when falling from a height of 1.0 to 2.5 m, the median mass value m of the splashed particles was respectively from 0 to 0.014 ± 0.001 g; 0 to 2.5 m – from 0.006 ± 0.002 to 0.021 ± 0.006 g, respectively (the critical value of the Student’s t test tα = 2.776 in each sample is less than the empirical te Student’s test 3.464–8.612, significance level p is less < 0.05). The median value of the effective pressure pe of a single impact of a drop with a diameter of 1.73 mm when falling from a height of 1.0 to 2.5 m was respectively from 90.95 ± 4.61 to 168.60 ± 3.52 kPa; impact of a drop with a diameter 2,73 mm falling from a height of 1.0 to 2.5 m pe was from 114.92 ± 1.80 to 205.09 ± 10.50 kPa, respectively (tα = 8.610 << te from [20.091; 61.278], p < 0,001). The statistical significance of the dependence of the splashed particles mass on the effective pressure of the raindrops impact (tα = 5.041 << te from [19.140; 62.572], p < 0.001) was revealed. A regression equation for determining the mass m of splashed soil particles depending on the effective pressure pe of a single impact is obtained. It is determined that the larger diameter dd, the fall height h and the effective pressure pe a drop has, the more soil particles (m) it can spray. The importance of preventive measures to reduce the intensity of splash erosion as a condition to prevent the development of soil degradation processes is noted.
