CALCULATION OF A MEAN DIAMETER AND SOIL MOISTURE CONTOUR VOLUME UNDER DRIP IRRIGATION

Annotation

The purpose of the research is to develop a technique of determination of a mean diameter and volume of soil moisture contour formed in soil space under drip irrigation. The object of the study is soil drip moistening contours. The subject of the study is the calculated dependencies and the methodology for calculating the average diameter and volume of moisture contours formed under different soil conditions based on these dependences. The working hypothesis on the possibility for determining the volume of soil moisture contour by bringing it to the cylinder shape was proposed during the calculation methodology development. The diameter of the given cylinder is equal to the moisture contour mean diameter which can be determined on the known values of the depth and maximum diameter of the moisture contour under drip irrigation. The condition for the implementation of the proposed working hypothesis is the existence of functional links between the mean and maximum diameter of the contour and between the average diameter and the depth of the contour. Within the framework of the research the availability of the required functional relations was found and experimental dependencies systems were obtained that allows to determine the mean diameter value of the contour according to the known values of the maximum diameter and depth of the contour for a wide range of changes in soil characteristics such as the clay particles content in soil and its lowest moisture capacity. As a result of the research, a methodology for determining the mean diameter and volume of moisture contour, based on the experimental data of the authors and tested on the data from specialists in the field of drip irrigation was proposed. The obtained dependences describe the desired functional relationships adequately (with an accuracy of 12 %) and are recommended for practical calculations in the corresponding ranges of soil indicators.
