GULLY MODELING FOR FOREST RECLAMATION PURPOSES
- Land Reclamation, Recultivation, and Land Protection
The research objective is to develop a theoretic-experimental assessment method of the influence of reservoirs and canals on the underflooding of adjacent areas. Carried out experimental research has shown a strong correlation between the spring filling of the North Crimean canal and the increase of hydraulic pressure heads in the first aquifer that significantly affects the flooding situation in Kalanchak village and adjacent areas. Two-dimensional mathematical model of pressure head distribution in the Pliocene aquifer based on Helmholtz equation is proposed. The identification methods of equation parameters and boundary conditions based on field observation and pressure head measurements in the observation wells were considered. Solution of the boundary problem is made by the numerical method of successive over-relaxation in the rectangle. Three-dimensional pressure surface of the influence of the part of the Northern Crimean canal on the flooding situation in Kalanchak village and adjacent areas is obtained, that allowed evaluating the comprehensive influence of the canal, defining control activity, and developing the measures to minimize filtration and reduce filtration pressures. In particular, it is recommended to reconstruct the part of the canal, update combined (vertical and horizontal) drainage system, and construct new flowing wells along the bed of the river Kalanchak. To reduce infiltration it is recommended to use water-saving irrigation regimes, advanced irrigation methods along with the selection of proper sources of water for irrigation needs.
