CALCIUM CHLORIDE INFLUENCE ON THE CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF CHERNOZEM SOILS

Annotation

The paper considers the influence on chernozem soil properties after the fall application of calcium chloride as an amendment at the rate of 2.4 t/ha. At the end of the first year of aftereffect the results of soil analyses have shown the influence on such indices as pH, alkalinity and content of chloride, exchangeable cations and carbonates. During the winter period with 200-300 mm of precipitation chlorides from said amendment are leached to the depth of 50 cm. The application of this amendment enables decreasing of the sum of exchangeable cations by 2.9 mmol of equivalents per 100 g of soil in spring and 9.2 mmol of equivalents per 100 g of soil in the upper layer 0-20 cm at the end of the first year of aftereffect. The content of exchangeable calcium in absolute units doesn’t increase, and in the upper layer 0-20 cm decreases by 10 % from the initial data. Simultaneously at the end of the first year of aftereffect carbonate content increases up to 3.6 % what agreed with the higher values of pH from 7.93 to 8.31. In tote the application of this amendment per se doesn’t solve the problem of increasing the content of exchangeable calcium in soil exchange complex of chernozem soils, although it has positive influence on exchangeable sodium decreasing.
