NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF IRRIGATION SYSTEMS ON THE EXAMPLE OF LIMANSK IRRIGATION-WATER SYSTEM

Annotation

The aim of this study is to develop technologies allowing to raise the effective functioning of irrigation systems by using as a factor of possible optimization of hydraulic processes in their canals. The work is aimed at finding ways of raising the irrigation efficiency, improvement of meliorative condition of irrigated lands. The automation of pumping stations, water outlet structures, as well as management of water distribution in irrigation and water routes is necessary for solving this problem. Obtaining information on state of controlled systems and transferring the control commands should be carried out with the use of modern data transmission facilities. The large-scale topographic maps, the designed digital elevation model, the longitudinal and transverse profiles, as well as programs of data processing (Quantum GIS system – QGIS) were used in the process of research as materials and methods for obtaining the results. Construction of a one-dimensional hydraulic model of the irrigation network was carried out using software HEC-RAS. On the basis of the collected information a model of irrigation system was worked out, and hydraulic characteristics for each element were given. GIS for Liman open irrigation network (OIN) which is the main tool for data storage and processing was created, and a computer hydraulic model of functioning of Liman OIN canals was developed. The computer model allows choosing the optimal mode of irrigation system operation based on the hydraulic characteristics of canals and culverts. With the help of this model different hydraulic modes of Liman OIN canals were studied, the curves of the free water surface at different water consumption in irrigation canals were obtained.
