ZONING OF THE SOUTHERN RUSSIA TERRITORY ACCORDING TO HEAT AND MOISTURE SUPPLY FOR THE COTTON INTRODUCTION
- Land reclamation, water manadgement and agrophysics
Purpose: to determine the impact of irrigation regimes on water consumption and grain corn yield in the Rostov region.
Materials and methods. The studies were conducted in the Oktyabrsky district Rostov region in 2023–2025 in triplicate. Experimental design: variant 1 – pre-irrigation threshold of 70-70-70 % of the minimum moisture capacity (control), variant 2 – 70-80-70 % of the minimum moisture capacity, variant 3 – 80-80-70 % of the minimum moisture capacity, variant 4 – 80-80-80 % of the minimum moisture capacity, variant 5 – 80-85-80 % of the minimum moisture capacity. The pre-irrigation threshold of soil moisture was differentiated by the periods of crop development: 1) seedlings – 9th leaf, 2) 9th leaf – flowering, 3) flowering – milky-wax ripeness. Statistical data processing was carried out according to B. A. Dospekhov.
Results. The maximum total water consumption of grain corn was established for variant 5: in 2023 – 6440.0 cub. m/ha, in 2024 – 6320.0 cub. m/ha, in 2025 – 5840.0 cub. m/ha, which required an irrigation rate of 3080.0; 5460.0 and 4480.0 cub. m/ha, respectively. The minimum total water consumption was determined for the control variant 5450.0; 5160.0 and 4940.0 cub. m/ha in the study years with the lowest use of irrigation water. The water consumption coefficient for this variant had the highest values, indicating less efficient water use. The best average yield was recorded for variant 5 – 12.3 t/ha, which is 3.7 t/ha (31.6 %) higher than the control variant (8.6 t/ha). Variants 2–4 also provided a yield increase of 2.5–3.1 t/ha, but were inferior to variant 5.
Conclusions. For the Rostov region conditions, when growing the Zernogradsky 354 grain corn hybrid, the most effective irrigation regime was maintaining soil moisture at least 80-85-80 % of the minimum moisture capacity, ensuring maximum productivity.
