Purpose: to analyze the application of various types of plant growth regulators and their impact on the physiological processes of cotton growth and development.
Discussion. The relevance of using growth regulators for agricultural crops as one of the methods for increasing the resistance of cultivated crops to unfavorable environmental factors is substantiated. The main types of plant growth regulators are analyzed, and their biological potential for agricultural development is noted. The diverse influence of growth regulators on the vital processes of cotton plants is evidenced by the works of many authors. It was found that when treated with cyanobacteria, the mass of raw cotton increased by 20.8 g with a single treatment, and by 31.8 g with a double treatment, compared to the control. The combined action of phytohormones and vitamins allowed increasing the fiber yield by 13 g compared to the control. The use of fusicoccin in a test plot in the Republic of Uzbekistan increased germination by 10–12 %, boll opening by 44 %, and yield by 4.1 q/ha compared to the control. The positive effect of biostimulants on seed germination, development, and cotton yield has been proven. The use of a polymer-metal complex nanopreparation for seed encapsulation activated plant growth and development processes, resulting in yields 3.7–4.0 q/ha higher than the control, etc.
Conclusions: an analysis of theoretical and practical studies showed that the use of plant growth regulators contributes to increased adaptive properties and crop yield, accelerated cotton plant development, and, consequently, a shortened growing season, which is a necessary condition for cotton cultivation in the conditions of southern Russia.
